The iconic Jennie of Blackpink has released a brand-new, three-song EP titled Fallen Angel with an accompanying music video for the title track. The intimate project includes “Fallen Angel,” “HEAVEN” and “Less than a Lover.”

​On the surface, “Fallen Angel” can be taken as a dreamy love song. With lines like “I’m searching, I’m searching, I’m searching/For a love/I’m searching, I’m searching, I’m searching/But you’re gone/Without you is no fun” and the chorus “Hey, can’t you stay?/Don’t leave a fallen angel out here on her own/Find a place/Wherever we land is where we turn into a home” can align with that of a lost lover that Jennie mourns and wants back. However, the music video adds another layer.

​The visuals blend a peaceful dream sequence with a horrifying nightmare, with scenes of Jennie frolicking in a field of flowers immediately followed by a much darker, black-and-white scenery. The final part of the video follows what seems to be a child version of Jennie leading her into a burning house, where the child version of herself says, “Thorns may be the sharpest, fiercest thing on this earth. And yet, they bloom into the world’s most beautiful roses. Right now, we’re all those roses.” This shifts the song’s meaning from romance to rediscovering and embracing a past version of yourself, and recognizing the things you’ve overcome and learned to become the person you are today.

​Fallen Angel also has a physical CD version, which will include an additional three exclusive songs: “sweettooth,” lockitdown” and “Face.”
