As part of a campaign reclaiming agency, indie rock band Wet Leg have produced a cover of The Cardigans’ “My Favorite Game.” The cover comes as part of an initiative from Deutsche Telekom, which Wet Leg founder Rhian Teasdale was made the face of as Stereogum reports. While there is no full release of the cover, a snippet can be heard in a video for the campaign, titled “Not a Passenger,” and Wet Leg is set to perform the track live at an August 26th event for the campaign. The “Not a Passenger” video can be found on YouTube.
Teasdale stars in the video driving in a car, when at a stop she finds herself harassed by embodiments of modern, digital and overstimulating trends. “Influencers,” self-help gurus and AI “slop” characters invade the car but Teasdale quickly shifts into gear and floors it trying to ward off the overstimulating invaders. The band’s cover of “My Favorite Game” kicks in as she drives off, moving past signs reading all-too-common internet phrases and platitudes like “follow your dreams” or “like & follow,” with even a streamer “reacting” to her escapades and passersby watching or taking photos. Teasdale slams the breaks and is ejected from the car, but gets up in the face of the crowd as they all part ways to let her pass.
Speaking about why the track resonated with her, Teasdale shared, “I love being in a band and I love making music, but it’s 2026, which means I also run a couple of social media accounts. And with that comes a constant stream of opinions about me, my friends, and the music we make. Whether those opinions are super sweet and encouraging or creepy and loaded with misogyny, it’s important to me to be able to tune them out and stay on my own frequency. That’s why the message of “I’m Not a Passenger” really clicked with me. We’re all constantly being told who to be by strangers online. Life’s too short not to be at the helm.”
The campaign is focused on regaining control in a noisy, overstimulating digital age, reminding people to “mute the backseat drivers. Trust your own instincts. Take the wheel.” As part of the campaign, an event will be hosted at Berlin on August 26th headlined by Wet Leg, with Lava La Rue and Wolfram opening.
