On August 6th, Green Day debuted GDTV (Green Day TV) with YouTube stream that included unseen archived footage, full concerts, backstage videos, studio sessions and so much more. NME reports that once a week drummer Tre Cool will “host his own show on the platform called Transmission Unknown. This will see him handpick a number of emerging acts who he wants to spotlight, as well as include comedy sketches”.
The launch of GDTV follows the bands release of their comedy Nimrods that is loosely inspired by the trios early touring days. The movie will be in theaters on August 14th. “The film stars Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust as the teenage band, with Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Jenna Fischer and Bobby Lee in supporting roles” (NME). Green Days frontman Billie Joe Armstrong talked about the film by saying “You have to be delusional to be in band” … “It takes a certain kind of dreamer. I remember trying to get that first gig. It was like, ‘Oh, my God, if we could only get out of this living room and then play our first show at Gilman” (NME). The soundtrack for the movie will include their new song since there 2024 album Savior called ‘I’m Never Gonna R.I.P’ and some new live recordings from the films fictional band Anal OG Dogs.
The band also played ‘Basket Case’ “on top of an ice cream truck at San Diego Comic-Con, said that “the World Cup did more [good for humanity] than the UN has done in the last 20 years“, and Armstrong has announced limited-edition Radiant Red Epiphone guitar (NME).
