Billy Strings‘ concert this past Thursday was one to remember, but not for the reasons one might expect or hope. The folk and bluegrass singer was playing set at Fishers Event Center in Fishers, Indiana when, in the middle of the set, an eagle-eyed audience member threw an unknown object that nailed the singer directly in the head. Stereogum reports that the unidentified projectile didn’t appear to give the artist any severe injuries or bursts, but it certainly (and reasonably) got Strings twisted. Video of the incident can be found online, including a YouTube video which claims the item to be a lighter.
Strings was in between songs, speaking to the audience when the object was thrown. “I’m so glad I could make it down here to make up for last time,” he stated just before the object’s impact. After the hit, his tone expectedly changed quickly. “Oh, what the hell, man? Maybe not! Maybe I shouldn’t be back! You know, why the fuck would you throw something at me? Is your dick really that small? I was just gettin’ ready to say how much I’m happy to be here, I love you guys, and all this shit, and you throw somethin’, it hits me right in the fuckin’ head! Find out who that was and sodomize him, please!” Another angle of the incident posted to Instagram by Untz compared Strings’ comments regarding the size of the perpetrator’s member to similar remarks by Les Claypool during set with Primus where the singer was pelted with mud. It’s also not the only injury Strings has sustained on tour, but unlike the backstage skateboarding incident from earlier this year, it’s safe to say this incident is much less likely to see severe impacts on future tour dates.
