Nashville-based rising star Stephen Wilson Jr. has teamed up with Miranda Lambert on his latest single, “Hardwired.” The track, co-written by Wilson Jr. and Lambert, as well as Jesse Frasure and Adam Hood, released yesterday alongside a visualizer. It can be found on YouTube.

The track’s visualizer was directed by Jace Kartye. “Hardwired” is described as “a vivid portrait of working-class perseverance,” featuring an interpolation of the iconic track “Where Is My Mind?” by The Pixies. The visuals showcase a variety of materials, including the circuits and wiring of a chip. Occasionally worms and other bugs are seen crawling across the scenes. Wilson Jr. and Lambert both sing over an instrumental fusing the sounds of country and grungier rock while they paint the story of hard workers – the laborers and working class, who don’t have the energy to worry about appearances or the time between to do anything but try and recover. As the song put its, it speaks of the “hard livin’ for the hardwired.” Midway through, the song does indeed feature the duo interpolating the title drop of “Where Is My Mind?,” using it in a longing way alongside it’s own chorus to emphasize the level of fatigue and exhaustion workers face that leaves them unable to even recognize that very exhaustion.

Wilson Jr. will be on tour across the US and Europe across the year, touring the US from now until October and returning in November until his final show of the year in The Truth, Nashville in December.
