Heavy metal trailblazer and Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne has died at age 76. A pillar of British heavy black metal, Osbourne’s influence spans across different cultures of music and television. The musician was confirmed dead this Tuesday by the BBC.
John Michael Osbourne, famously known as Ozzy Osbourne, was born on December 3rd 1948 in Marston Green, UK. He rose to fame in the late 60s when he joined the metal band Black Sabbath as the lead singer. His involvement in the band led to Osbourne receiving the nickname the “Prince of Darkness”, which later became the title of one of the his albums in the early 2000s. Although he was kicked out of the band a decade later due to substance abuse issues, Osbourne went on to release many songs and albums (both under his band “The Ozzy Osbourne band” and when he later rejoined Black Sabbath).
According to variety.com, Osbourne had been battling Parkinson’s disease since 2018. The musician struggled with various symptoms until being diagnosed with the disease in 2020. In early 2023, Osbourne decided to end his touring due to several health concerns – mainly relating to a spinal injury he sustained in 2018. While the musician cut down on his tours, he continued to perform in several events. His last performance occurred on July 5th in the “Back to the Beginning” UK music festival which aimed to bid a farewell to Ozzy and Black Sabbath – marking their last performance together.
