Today marks the release of Kesha’s highly anticipated sixth studio album, . (Period). With its full release comes the final single, “Red Flag,” as well as a video to go alongside the track. It can be found on Kesha’s YouTube channel.
The catchy and upbeat track features a poppy sound very in-line with the singer’s recent streak of singles. Lyrics discuss the singer’s penchant for chaos and normally “negative” traits – “red flags” -in a partner. The video features Kesha performing the track on stage alongside some backup dancers, with strikingly saturated visuals. For nearly the entire video, the screen is soaked in a bright shade of pink and later red, even sometimes flashing between the two at an eye-straining degree. The video also features the lyrics in white text at the center of the screen.
The new track comes as the last of a streak of successful singles for the album and lands itself in the middle of the full album’s track list. A previous single, “Delusional,” was criticized for its use of AI artwork to create its first cover.
. (Period)‘s Independence Day release suitably marks an important moment of independence for Kesha herself, as this is her first full release after her departure from her previous record label. The singer was embroiled in a decade-long lawsuit with the label where she alleged she was the victim of sexual harassment and other forms of abusive treatment. Now an outspoken advocate against sexual harassment, she recently expressed solidarity for Cassie Ventura, one of the many alleged victims in the Sean “Diddy” Combs trial. When the trial first began, the singer had famously changed lyrics of her song “Tik Tok” to take a swipe against the singer.
