In 2018, Dr. Dre and his then-wife, Nicole Young, hired a divorce psychotherapist to help handle the dissolution of their marriage. Contact between the three lasted for the duration of the divorce case until, in 2021, the case was settled with Nicole Young being awarded $100 million. Dre also suffered three strokes during this time, so he clearly was having a rough year.
However, the psychotherapist, Dr. Charles Sophy, is now claiming that that wasn’t the end of his contact with Dre. Dr. Sophy has recently filed a lawsuit against Dre claiming that, the rapper began texting the doctor in February 2023, with allegedly threatening messages that he claims allegedly made him fear for his life.
According to Stereogum, Dre allegedly messaged Dr. Sophy between the months of February and August of last year with allegedly ominous content, allegedly saying that Sophy was “going to have to pay for” supposed wrongdoings and that if Dre didn’t receive a written apology, he would allegedly be “moving forward. I’m not playing, trust me.” A message Dre allegedly sent in August appeared to say, “Don’t worry I haven’t forgotten about you,” which left Dr. Sophy particularly shaken, and possibly could have been what led him to filing the suit.
It’s unclear now as to whether or not this lawsuit will impact the upcoming release of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s newest album, Missionary, which some have claimed to be coming out next month.
