Today, Cults, the multiplatinum New York duo made up of Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion, have released a new captivating music video for their latest single, “Onions.” The track is featured on their fifth studio album, To the Ghosts. It is a distinctive sorbet of dream vocals and surreal melodies.

Directed by Alice Fassi, the music video for “Onions” is an eerily whimsical journey set in a secluded country home of the 1980s. In the video, Folin takes on the role of a happy-go-lucky, innocent housewife with a dark twist.  As the video progresses, it becomes clear that her smiley exterior lies a more ominous, sadistic side. Oblivion plays her half-dead husband, not exactly human but not exactly alive. The colorful, vintage cinematography contrasts with the macabre storyline, creating an artistically, unsettling atmosphere.

The song itself features Cults’ signature mix of flickering melodic singalongs and moody instrumentation, continuing the sound they’ve produced on To the Ghost. The album has been lauded for its rich, atmospheric production and captivating lyrics, with publications like Paste praising Cults for being “at the top of their game.” The album also includes other standout tracks such as “Left My Keys”, “Crybaby”, and “Hung The Moon.”
