Weezer’s self-titled debut album was released 30 years ago. To celebrate the anniversary of the iconic blue album, Weezer has released a Spotify exclusive EP containing live versions of the album’s highlights, including “Surf Wax America” among others.

According to Stereogum, this version of “Surf Wax America” features Barry Johnson of Joyce Manor on vocals alongside Rivers Cuomo. This isn’t the first time the two bands have joined forces to give fans special treat, as Joyce Manor opened for Weezer on their Indie Rock Roadtrip tour last summer.

The live version of “Surf Wax America” stays faithful to the original track. But according to Stereogum, the song almost sounds familiar to Joyce Manor fans, as Weezer and Joyce Manor tend to have a similar sound while still staying unique to themselves. It certainly brings fans back to last years tour, where they got to see both bands perform onstage.

Alongside “Surf Wax America,” The 30th Anniversary of Weezer/ Spotify Anniversaries LIVE featured live versions of “Buddy Holiday,” “Undone (The Sweater Song),” and “Say It Ain’t So.”

This new release of the album isn’t the only way Weezer is celebrating the anniversary of the band’s debut. Starting this September in St. Paul, Minnesota, the band will be embarking on their Voyage To The Blue Planet tour to commemorate the legacy and impact of Weezer— the blue album AND the band that created it.
