The Jesus and Mary Chain at Franklin Music Hall on Sep. 29

Scottish alternative band The Jesus and Mary Chain is celebrating 40 years since their founding in 1983 with a new international tour, coming to the Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia on September 29.

The band debuted in 1984, with the release of their single “Upside Down,” subsequently releasing their debut studio album, Psychocandy, a year later. The album would quickly climb the U.K. charts, with hits including “Just Like Honey” and “Never Understand” drawing in a new, much larger fanbase to the group.

Shortly after the tour was announced earlier in 2024, the band released their eighth and most recent studio album, Glasgow Eyes. The group released the album’s lead single “Jamcod” in late 2023, and the full album found its way to the charts quickly after its release, being met with positive feedback both commercially and critically.

The band will be joined by English post-punk band The Psychedelic Furs, who similarly to The Jesus and Mary Chain found popularity in the 1980s. Their debut self-titled album, The Psychedelic Furs, is considered one of the best albums of 1980. More recently, in 2020, the group released their first album in almost 20 years, Made of Rain
