The Manhattan-based punk rock outft Gogol Bordello has dropped a brand new track and official music video “Take Only What You Can Carry,” featuring the Ukrainian Pop band KAZKA. The new single comes from Gogol Bordello’s upcoming album SOLIDARITINE, set to drop on September 16 via Casa Gogol/Cooking Vinyl.
Gogol Bordello have established themselves as strong supporters of the Ukrainian people in the midst of Russia’s war against them, with their upcoming project dedicated toward solidarity with Ukraine. Keeping with that theme, “Take Only What You Can Carry” acts as a call to arms, bringing together multiple Ukrainian artists, including Oleksandra Zaritska of KAZKA, who sings the lyrics of Ukranian poet Serhiy Zhadan translated into English.
Speaking on the decision to enlist Zaritska as a guest vocalist on the track, vocalist Eugene Hutz explains: :She is a raucous rock singer, bringing an emotional message of the uprooted people whose lives were destroyed by this fucked up war in Ukraine… Oleksandra does great justice to the lyrics. It’s something that I’ve never done before – use someone else’s poetry for lyrics. But here, the idea was to bring three diverse Ukrainian artists together into a knuckle for continuous moral bust to the fighters and refugees. Plus, I really love Zhadan’s poetry, he is a wordsmith from God. No wonder he is nominated for Nobel Prize.”
