The xx’s Oliver Sim has released the music video for his song “GMT”, which will be featured on his debut album, Hideous Bastard, which was produced by bandmate Jamie xx and set for release on September 9 via Young.
The song features Sim singing and dancing against the backdrop of the sky at sunset, amongst the clouds and through speeding cars. It’s clearly a song full of pining – for home, for love and for nostalgic experiences. In fact, Sim writes in his video description that the song “was written about pining over a love back home, thousands of miles apart on different time zones. It’s also a love letter to London.” After following Jamie xx to Sydney in order to escape the “British winter”, Sim was inspired to write “GMT” and the rest of his debut album. The release follows Sim’s trend of moody, atmospheric solo songs.
This year has been a landmark one for Sim. He previously released his first solo song, “Romance With A Memory” back in March. This was followed by the release of another single, “Fruit”, back in April.
