Rock musicians Ted Nugent and Joan Jett are once again exchanging words after, earlier this year, Ted Nugent targeted a 12-year-old “100 Greatest Guitarists” list that was created by Rolling Stone magazine. Nugent made it clear that he was not a fan of some of the guitarists that were included on the list, as well as the fact that there were guitarists that he felt deserved to be on the list but did not appear. One of the guitarists that he specifically called out was Joan Jett (of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts). He claimed that one would have had to be “a soulless, soulless prick” to include her on the list. Later, Jett fired back that he shouldn’t have been included on the list either (which he was not). She further stated, “He’s not a tough guy. He plays tough guy, but this is the guy who shit his pants–literally–so he didn’t have to go in the Army.” Since the list was released, it’s likely that other artists would disagree with Nugent’s remarks, including country music legend Wanda Jackson. However, it seems that Nugent is sticking to his claims.
Adding more fuel to the fire, as expected based on his previous controversial remarks, Nugent responded to Jett by calling her “stupid” and denying that he dodged the Vietnam War draft. According to Blabbermouth, in a YouTube live stream, Nugent said, “All I expressed in an interview on WRIF was how I love Joan and her killer rocking band. She’s got a great rocking band. Great songs. The best garage band maybe ever, except for maybe Green Day. But she can’t be in the top 100 guitar player list […].” He took it even further and stated, “Maybe the plastic has gone to her brain. I don’t know. I just didn’t think she was that stupid. I never said anything about how stupid she was. I didn’t think she was stupid; now we know how stupid she is.” Nugent’s entire live stream is available to watch below.
