Thou have proven as of late that they’re masters of the collaboration. From dark folk singer-songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle to experimental metal duo The Body, the New Orleans metal collective has made some of their best music by teaming up with like-minded artists. They’re at it again with the release of a new album with Portland drone artist Mizmor, called Myopia.
While there aren’t as many eyes on Thou as some of their more mainstream heavy music contemporaries, the band says on Bandcamp that the album was written and recorded with Mizmor in secret. It’s only eight songs long, but with several of them stretching past the 10 minute mark, it makes for fairly extended listening.
It’s being released on Gilead Media and is available for purchase and streaming on Bandcamp. There are some special vinyl editions available like a wavy gold double LP and a gold and white double LP, though some editions are already sold out so you’ll need to act fast if you want to get your hands on them.
Thou and Mizmor both recently contributed to Sacred Bones’ covers series along with Emma Ruth Rundle. They covered the 2010 Zola Jesus track “Night,” from her album Stridulum.
All three of those artists are also in the Netherlands for Roadburn, which took place over the weekend. That’s where Thou and Rundle initially teamed up before releasing an LP called May Our Chambers Be Full and EP called The Helm of Sorrow a few years ago. This year, Thou and Mizmor played a collaborative set at the festival.
