The rap superstar Kanye West has released a new official music video for his single “Eazy,” featuring rapper The Game. The track was originally released on January 16.
To say this music video is unusual would be an understatement, even by the standards of Kanye West. The video creates an unusual and haunting aesthetic by its constant usage of claymation in a black and white filter. Claymation is used almost throughout the entire video, with the main exception of the music video’s section featuring The Game, who is present in the video to deliver a verse atop a casket.
A main focus of the video is how the Claymation form of Kanye proceeds to kidnap and drag a Pete Davidson figure on a motorcycle. Kanye proceeds to bury Pete Davidson and pour seeds and water over him, after which we see him grow plants on his head. The video concludes with a black screen reading “Everyone lived happily ever after, except skeke, you know who. jk he’s fine,” with ‘Skete’ being the nickname West has used for Pete Davidson. The focus on Pete Davidson in the video reflects lyrics in “Eazy” that directly go after Davidson, saying “God saved me from that crash/Just so I can beat Pete Davidson’s ass.”
Pitchfork has reported that West’s YouTube channel has not officially uploaded the new music video, but instead has only made the video on his Instagram. It is not known whether this decision is related to Kanye West’s recent decision to not upload his latest album, Donda 2, to Spotify or any other mainstream streaming services. The release of the music video for “Eazy” follows not long after the release of Kanye West’s most recent album, Donda 2, a followup to Kanye’s album released only 5 months prior, Donda. “Eazy” is not the only track that Kanye West has used to attack Pete Davidson. Recently, Kanye has also taken shots at Pete on his feature in “City of Gods,” with Fivio Foreign and Alicia Keys.
Kanye West has also briefly teased a project, titled “Stemwear” in a recently deleted Instagram post. It is currently unknown what Stemwear refers to, but it may be related to an upcoming clothing line.
