Actress Evan Rachel Wood, as well as the former fiancée of rock singer-songwriter Marilyn Manson, also known as Brian Warner, claims that she was allegedly , according to LoudWire, “essentially raped on camera” by the rock singer while he was filming for his music video for “Heart-Shaped Glasses” in 2007.
The Sundance Film Festival announced that Wood’s documentary, Phoenix Rising, will be among the new films presented during the 2022 season. The documentary will cover the actress’ life, but it will also discuss the allegations of abuse that Wood has made against Manson. The documentary comes after Wood claims that Manson allegedly started grooming her when she was teenager. She also claims that he allegedly “abused [her] for years.” Wood, who made her claims of alleged abuse public in February 2021, is among several other women who have accused Mason of alleged abuse.
During the time of the 2007 music video, “Heart-Shaped Glasses”, the 20-year-old actress at the time and Manson were dating. Wood agreed to be in the video, and she claims that she was allegedly sexually assaulted on set. Wood alleges, “We had discussed a simulated sex scene, but once the cameras were rolling, he started penetrating me for real. I had never agreed to that. I’m a professional actress, I have been doing this my whole life. I’d never been on a set that unprofessional in my life up until this day. It was complete chaos, and I did not feel safe.” She adds, “It was really traumatizing experience filming the video. I didn’t know how to advocate for myself or know how to say no because I had been conditioned and trained to never talk back.” Wood even covered “You Get What You Give” by the New Radicals as a direct aim at Manson and showed her support for the other alleged victims of Manson’s abuse.
Initially, Manson replied that the allegations were “horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners.” Later, Manson’s lawyer claimed that the women were “trying to conflate the imagery and artistry of Warner’s ‘shock rock’ stage persona…with fabricated accounts of abuse.”
