Legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is named the 2022 MusiCares Person of the Year. Mitchell will receive her award during the 2022 pre-Grammy awards show. MusiCares is a non-profit charity foundation of the Recording Academy Awards. The charity helps various musicians in time of need. When receiving the awards, Mitchell will join a long list of other musicians who were named Person of the Year. This includes last year’s honorees Aerosmith and others like Dolly Parton, Fleetwood Mac, Carol King, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.
The award will presented to Mitchell during an official gala that will also feature a tribute concert for the artist. An official lineup and set list are not announced yet. About her new award Mitchell says, “I’m honored to be chosen as person of the year by this great charity.” She continues, “I look forward to being part of this gala that will help MusiCares continue their inspired work in providing a support system for those in need.”
The gala, which is set for January 29th, will also feature other charity events like a silent auction, supporting MusiCares. The non-profit’s Executive Director, Laura Segura says about Mitchell’s honor, “She is being honored not only for her iconic music and lyrics but for her trailblazing spirit and the inspiration she’s brought to so many artists.”
Joni Mitchell is wildly known for being one of the most influential singer-songwriters of the ‘70s. Her album Blue is celebrated for her honest and poetic lyrics and the singer’s ability to put her emotions into the album. The 1971 landmark album recently celebrated it’s 50th anniversary. The album was a hit when it got released and still hold up five decades later. The record is also featured on the famous Rolling Stone Magazine list, 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
