Record Store Day has revealed some of the first drops that will appear during the event. Among the special releases includes a covers 7” by St. Vincent, a vinyl-only soundtrack to the documentary Other Music, featuring recordings from Neutral Milk Hotel, Vampire Weekend and more, drops of exclusive music from Tom Petty, Linkin Park, The Flaming Lips, Mastodon, AC/DC and much more. Additionally, MF Doom and Beastie Boys will also have releases for the event. Record Store Day will take place on June 12 and July 17, 2021.
The Other Music sountrack will feature Animal Collective’s “Winter’s Love (live at Gardner Arts Centre),” Vampire Weekend’s “A-Punk (live at Other Music),” Neutral Milk Hotel’s “Everything Is (live at Other Music)” and more. The vinyl will be limited to 1,500 copies, and will include a DVD of the documentary fit with 25 minutes of extras and deleted scenes.
The Flaming Lips will be releasing a limited edition silver vinyl of The Soft Bulletin Companion. Only 16,000 copies will be available, the album originally available only as a promo CD that had been hand made by the band’s management. St. Vincent will be releasing a 7” featuring a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Piggy” with Dave Grohl on drums, and a cover of Metallica’s “Sad But True.”
Tom Petty’s Angel Dream (Songs and Music from the Motion Picture She’s the One) will also be available on a limited edition cobalt blue vinyl. Within the soundtrack will contain some songs that had been left off the most recent Wildflowers box set, as well as two previously unreleased Petty tracks, “105 Degrees” and “One Of Life’s Little Mysteries.” A cover of JJ Cale’s “Thirteen Days” and an instrumental titled “French Disconnection” will also appear on the release.
Linkin Park’s Meteora will be available on a blue vinyl disc, while Gorillaz will be sharing a box set of their six studio albums, Gorillaz, Demon Days, Plastic Beach, Humanz, The Now Now and Song Machine Season 1.
Charlie Benante, Alex Skolnick and Ra Diaz will be releasing an EP of Rush tributes, featuring cover of Rush’s “Subdivisions.” Meanwhile, Fred Armisen, who will also be Record Store Day’s 2021 ambassador, will be releasing an instrumental EP titled Parade Meeting.
Oneohtrix Point Never will also be sharing some early material including Betrayed In The Octagon, Zones Without People and Russian Mind. Meanwhile, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib’s Piñata will have new cover artwork in an exclusive 1984 edition.
Sub Pop revealed that they’ll have Mudhoney and Meat Puppets split 7” featuring covers of “Warning” and “One of These Days.” The album was initially going to be available during their 2020 Mudhoney/Meat Puppets tour, which had been postponed due to COVID-19.
