High on Fire’s Matt Pike will be releasing a solo album, according to an Instagram post shared by his bandmate, Jeff Matz. Matz, who is the bass player for High on Fire, revealed he had played the bağlama on the record.
“Had a great time recording some elektro bağlama tracks with @everythinghz for my brother @mattpike1972 ‘s upcoming solo album,” Matz shared on Instagram.

While more information pertaining to the album, such as an estimated release date, has not yet been revealed, fans can take comfort in knowing that the album is in progress. However, Pike shared last year that he has been working on an album with Mastodon’s Brent Hinds. Parts of the album had been slow-moving due to the pandemic.
“Well, it was supposed to ramp up here and it’s going a little slow now [due to] quarantine,” Pike had said in Cat Jones’ Hot Blooded podcast. “‘Cause I planned on going back there [to Brent’s] after this next Sleep tour or something and hanging out and sitting down. ‘Cause we got some stuff done, but it wasn’t a major lot. But there’s definitely all these… there’s like two hours worth of ideas, it’s just putting them all together, you know?”
Pike had also recently appeared on former Kvelertak’s vocalist, Erland Hjelvik’s single “Glory Of Hel.” In 2019, High On Fire had been forced to cancel their 2019 Electric Messiah tour dates due to an emergency related to his diabetes. Pike is also a member of Sleep, who had gone on hiatus in 2019.
