Amoeba Hollywood Set for April 1 Grand Reopening at Brand New Location

Ameoba Music in Hollywood is a landmark and treasure to music-loving Angelenos, who were heartbroken to hear of the closing of the store on Sunset Boulevard. It was April 27, 2020 when the news broke that the Sunset Boulevard store would officially close its doors after being home to Amoeba Hollywood since 2001. The store announced that it would re-open in a new location just four blocks down from the original location to 6200 Hollywood Blvd, right next door to the Fonda Theatre. The re-opening was initially scheduled for Fall 2020 but was delayed due to Covid-19. The new location is set to open on Thursday, April 1, and you can trust that this is no April Fool’s joke! The store will have new temporary hours: Monday – Sunday 11am – 8pm (buy counter open 11am – 7pm).

On their website, Amoeba offered a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at the renovation of the new location. The new location will also include a stage, similar in size to the one at their previous location, for live performances and events. The space is single-story, but will feature multiple levels inside. A staircase has been built to house their book section upstairs, as well as some offices. Columns on the main floor were painted different colors like the rainbow, and posters and decor have been placed on the walls. When first walking into the store, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful color vinyl installation with their “Peace Through Music” message in neon.

“We will bring that familiar Amoeba energy into this new space,” Amoeba Music wrote. “You can be sure it will provide the ‘true Amoeba experience’ as we will carry the same breadth and depth of selection.” The new store is a little bit smaller than the old space, but not by much. Parking is available in the parking structure attached to the El Centro complex and parking validation will be provided. The new location is also across the street from the Hollywood & Vine metro stop, so it’s super accessible from public transportation. Bathrooms are provided for customers, and furry friends are welcome!

Amoeba Hollywood’s re-opening day will include a special design created by L.A. artist Ivan Minsloff. Customers will receive a limited edition poster as a gift with purchase while supplies last, and there will be silkscreened T-shirts available for purchase in the store on April 1st. The store will be following all health and safety guidelines from local City and County public health departments, including social distancing and mandatory wearing of face coverings over the nose and mouth. They will not be  checking bags at the front of the store, but ask that you do not bring large bags or backpacks.

You’ll soon be able to peruse your favorite artists, new releases and more at Amoeba’s brand new location! A line is expected to form early, so be sure to get your spot if you’d like to join in on opening day festivities. The line to enter the store will form on Argyle Blvd. Customers who have more than 10 items to sell or trade will line up for the buy counter on Hollywood Blvd. (Customers with 10 items or less to sell will join the main shopping line.)
