Matt Sweeney and Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s Summer Tour Hits the Dry Gulch Ranch 6/13/21

Matt Sweeney and Bonnie “Prince” Billy announced a summer mini California tour which will follow the release of their upcoming collaborative album Superwolves, which is due April 30 via Drag City. The tour starts in Big Sur, stops in Sonoma and will finish in Malibu at the Dry Gulch Ranch on June 13, 2021.

The duo recently released a video for their new song “My Blue Suit,” which featured Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s warm vocals over Sweeney’s soft guitar picking. Video director Geoff McFetridge said in a statement: “I started this video by painting. The work I created, in response to the song, was large scale figures I could use in scenes filmed on camera. All the images in the film are done in camera, there are no digital effects. The graphic sequences were done with paintings wrapped around a garbage can placed on a Techniques 1200 turntable. The tools used to create the effects were knives, glue, paint and tape.” This is the duo’s second album they’ll release together, following 2005’s Superwolf. Another single off the album “Hall of Death” features renowned Tuareg musician, Mdou Moctar, as well as guitarist and producer Ahmoudou Madassane, bassist Mike Coltun and drummer Souleyman Ibrahim.

Look forward to the release of Superwolves on April 30 and enjoy a breezy live outdoor performance at Dry Gulch Ranch in Malibu. This will be a socially distanced event and masks will be enforced.
