David Gray’s White Ladder 20th Anniversary Tour Hits The Greek Theatre 7/31/21

UK singer-songwriter David Gray is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his 2000 release, White Ladder. He’s touring in the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand this summer and fall, and will be stopping in Los Angeles at the majestic outdoor Greek Theatre on July 31, 2021. To give you an idea of his contributions, “White Ladder was one in a million. It was a game changer, a life changer, the people’s choice blockbuster that launched a thousand troubadours.”

Over his career, Gray has released 11 albums, including 2002’s A New Day At Midnight and 2005’s Life In Slow Motion, which were both UK chart toppers. He’s known to create emotional, intimate and experimental albums which have won fans over. “It’s instinctive, you have to go where the music needs to go, otherwise the gleam, the sparkle will fall away,” Gray says about making his albums. Nonetheless, his career setbacks have left Gray at times wanting to quit all together. “I’ve been happy after the event to get back to writing the music that I felt was in me and following my creative path. I don’t think the records I’ve made since have been worse or better. I just think what happened with White Ladder involved more than music. It was a sort of heart and soul moment of total surrender for everybody involved, for me and the audience. That was it. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

After twenty years, White Ladder remains an album of great depth and beauty, a “superlative collection of emotional songs capturing a very special moment in time, as raw and immediate as when it was recorded.”
