Van Halen bassist Wolfgang Halen, who is the son and bandmate of the late legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen, has revealed that the band planned “Kitchen Sink” reunion tour featuring former members from across the band’s career. The bassist revealed these in new interview, where he promoted his debut music video “Distance,” which used home footage of the Van Halen household .
This tour was extremely similar to one envisioned by former lead vocalist Sammy Hagar prior to Eddie Van Halen’s passing earlier this year. Wolfgang Van Halen stated that the shows would involve major Van Halen veterans including singer David Lee Roth, Hagar, original bassist Michael Anthony and even Gary Cherone, who sang on the unpopular record Van Halen III in 1998.
Last year Anthony stated that there were plans for reunion tour, however the plug on these shows was cancelled at the time due to an unknown reason. That year was a rough one for Eddie Van Halen, as he was hospitalized due to a severe reaction from cancer medication, with Roth telling media outlets that the guitarist was “not doing well” a couple months later.
Wolgang Van Halen also claimed that his late father left behind a huge vault featuring jams, riffs and full songs he had written. “There’s a shit-ton of tapes that will take a very long time to go through,” Wolfgang Van Halen stated. “That’s not the priority right now. I can’t put a timeline on it. There will be a time we go through it. Not for the foreseeable future.”
