More news has come out about the controversy surrounding the potential Van Halen tour. Bassist Michael Anthony said in an interview on the Trunk Nation Sirius XM radio show that there were plans to have a Van Halen reunion tour, but they, unfortunately, fell through.
Michael Anthony says to @EddieTrunk in regards to a @VanHalen reunion … that had it worked out, we’d be rehearsing right now … catch the full interview from Wednesday’s show anytime you want via @SIRIUSXM on-demand! @siriusxmvolume #TrunkNation pic.twitter.com/OskYFdpMuo

He described his frustrations dealing with multiple managers who were terrible at communicating which lead him on a chase to only discover that the tour was not going to happen. He was contacted by Van Halen band member Sammy Hagar in October asking if he would be interested in a tour, but Anthony never heard back from him.
This then lead the bassist to contact David Lee Roth in January when he learned that nothing would become of the plans to conjure a reunion tour.
“They never got in touch with us about any kind of a contract or any kind of a meeting to discuss or whatever. And the next thing I knew, the plug got pulled on it…If things would have worked out as they were starting to go and it was planned, we probably would have been in pre-production rehearsals with Van Halen right now,” Anthony said to Eddie Trunk.
Roth hinted on the Trunk Nation show in December of last year that there might be a 2019 reunion tour. He also mentioned in an interview with Vulture that there stood a chance of other music legends such as the Foo Fighters and Guns N Roses joining the tour.
The reunion tour would have broken a 15-year separation between Anthony and the band as he left Van Halen in 2004 when he finished his last tour with the band. In 2007 David Lee Roth rejoined the band and went on a world tour with the rest of band members excluding Anthony.
The last Van Halen tour was in 2015 that did not include Anthony, but we can only hope as Van Halen fans that there will be clearer communication in the future to allow for a full band reunion tour.
