See Black Marble and Moaning Live at The Regent Theatre 12/17/20

Post-punkers Black Marble and Moaning are teaming up for a western US tour this fall, and will make a stop at the Regent Theatre in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 17. The tour was initially scheduled to begin earlier this year with the original LA date as May 7, but has been rescheduled due to Covid-19. With a tour kick-off date as early as November 27, it’ll be interesting to see if these dates will hold.

Black Marble is the project of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Chris Stewart. I’ve been a big fan of the band since discovering “A Great Design” from a movie soundtrack. Stewart’s debut full-length album A Different Arrangement has since gotten plenty of record play around my apartment. His second album It’s Immaterial is also great, but the first album is just one great gloomy hit after another. Just last year Black Marble, released his third full-length album Bigger Than Life on Sacred Bones Records. He performed at Substance Fest around the time of the release, alongside an incredible lineup of post-punk acts like New Order, John Maus and Lust For Youth. Hearing the new songs live definitely will give you a greater appreciation for the new album if you haven’t dug into it yet.

Moaning have released one of my favorite albums this year, Uneasy Laughter. It’s enchanting, brooding and dreamy so they’ll definitely be a great act to catch live, especially if you’re as much of a Black Marble fan as I am. Catch their live performance with Jimmy Whispers as the opening act at The Regent Theatre in Downtown on December 17, 2020. Here’s hoping for some normalcy as early as this year!
