No Joy have released a new music video for “Dream Rats” their latest single from their upcoming studio album Motherhood, out on August 21 via Joyful Noise/Hand Drawn Dracula. This latest video was directed by Beatrice Scharf-Pierzchala, who has worked with the likes of Patrick Watson, Yes Mccan and Monica Rekas.
“Dream Rats” shows No Joy’s frontwoman Jasamine White-Gluz and her sister Alissa White-Gluz, the frontwoman for Arch Enemy exchange vocal duties in a forest-like area, with a small pond and a goose. During the video both singers are shown singing under water, while random images such as a matchbook and uninflated balloon are shown quickly during brief interludes. The song itself is a blend of shoegaze-like dream pop, complemented by Alissa’s harsh heavy metal vocals, creating a cosmic blend of aggressive sounds with ethereal dreamscapes.
“I’ve never collaborated musically with my sister before. When we were kids we would sing and play music together but as we’ve both become adults and touring musicians we’ve never had a chance to work together,” Jasamine stated. “This is the heaviest song on this record so it felt fitting to have her on there. There is something special about her being on this album, specifically because it’s an exploration of family and motherhood.”
No Joy’s latest studio album release More Faithful came out in 2015 and the group released follow up EP Drool Sucker a year later. Arch Enemy’s most recent studio album Will To Power came out in 2017.
