Marilyn Manson’s released a couple of cryptic teasers nearly two weeks ago, which have now resulted in an album announcement for his upcoming LP We Are Chaos, out on September 11 via Loma Vista. This album will contain 10 new tracks, including its title track, which serves as the project’s debut single.
“We Are Chaos” is also accompanied by a new music video directed by Matt Mahurin. This visual opens up with a shot of Manson’s eye, before going into a slew of strange and gory visuals, with shots of heads and body parts such as tongues, and a brief moment where the performer wades through a pool of blood. The track is a lot more melodic than Manson’s more popular work, with an anthemic alternative rock chorus leading the track, filled with catchy guitar chords and a stadium rock-inspired vocals.
Manson states that the album will feature some different styles, saying that there is “definitely a side A and side B” to the work. Despite this juxtaposition of styles, he says the album will allow the listeners to piece together their own meaning from the work.
“When I listen to We Are Chaos now, it seems like just yesterday or as if the world repeated itself, as it always does, making the title track and the stories seem as if we wrote them today,” Manson explained in a press release. “This was recorded to its completion without anyone hearing it until it was finished. There is most definitely a side A and side B in the traditional sense. But just like an LP, it is a flat circle and it’s up to the listener to put the last piece of the puzzle into the picture of songs.”
This new melodic streak from Manson follows a recent statement from Brandi Carlile, who said the performer wanted to cover the Judy Garland classic “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” with her. Manson also teamed up with Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes for a cover of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” and “The Dope Show.”
