Put on your finest black attire and join us at the Teragram Ballroom on September 2 for a night of post-punk and shoegaze-inspired acts! This show, initially scheduled for April 5 and rescheduled due to Covid-19, will feature headlining act The KVB from the UK. Mexico City’s Mint Field and LA’s Chasms will open, so it should make for a unique show as we compare post-punk styles across three different countries.
The KVB, consisting of duo Nicholas Wood and Kat Day, blend reverb-soaked shoegaze with minimalist electronic production. Their live performances often include a visual element, produced by Day who studied fine art at the University of London. The duo got their start in 2010 with limited cassette and vinyl releases before the debut of their first full-length album in 2012, Always Then. They’ve recorded in Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe’s Berlin studio, and their second release was on Newcombe’s A Records. They’ve worked with drummer Joe Dilworth, known for his work with Stereolab and Cavern of Anti-Matter, and signed to Geoff Barrow of Portishead and Beak’s label Invada in 2015. If their dark and dreamy yet catchy sound has inspired these legends, if you’re a fan of that type of sound they’ll inspire you too.
Originally from Tijuana and now based in Mexico City, duo Mint Field explores the nostalgia and melancholy of daily life with loud guitars and ethereal vocals. They’ve toured all over the world, allowing each city to soak in and influence their sound.
LA’s Chasms are signed to the LA-based dark wave and post punk heavy Felte label. The local duo will set the stage for a dark and dreamy LA night.
