The Wonders are a parody of a pop rock band from the 1960s, who became famous through their one hit wonder “That Thing You Do.” The song itself was written by Schlesinger, who was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song as a result of the title track.
Tom Hanks directed the film, which was originally released back in 1996. The tweet states that “special guests” will join the livestream, which may include Hanks and actress Liv Tyler. Hanks was recently diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this year, although he recently announced that he was recovering well.
