The idnie rock duo Diet Cig have released another single from their upcoming sophomore studio album Do You Wonder About Me?, which will be released on May 1st via Frenchkiss Records. This new single is titled “Who Are You?” and is accompanied by a new lyric video
“Who Are You?” is a pop inspired indie track, with the singer Alex Luciano utilizing melodic vocal delivery throughout the track. The song’s lyrical content is reminiscent of some early 2000s pop punk, with more of an emphasis on pop with lighter instrumentals and Luciano’s more polished vocal style.
“‘Who Are You?’ is for anyone who’s ever received a completely self-serving apology from someone who’s hurt them,” the band stated in a press release. “I learned that healing doesn’t wait for an ‘I’m sorry’ to appear, and it can feel silly to have one arrive when you’re completely over it. This song takes these bad feelings and turns them into a fun upbeat jam to dance around in your kitchen to!”
Diet Cig formed in New Paltz, New York, during the later half of the 2010s, eventually releasing their debut studio album Swear I’m Good At This in 2017. The album introduced the world to their unique form of pop punk, which led them to tour with artists such as Sad13 and Thin Lips.
The outfit released the single “Night Terrors” at the beginning of this year. The band recently joined the likes of Margo Price, Black Lips, Nothing and Open Mike Eagle among many others for Noisey Night In, a virutal music festival organized by Noisey, a prominent music blog run by Vice.
