Built to Spill Take Over Pioneertown on 4/3

As a resident of Los Angeles chances are you’ve mocked flyover states. It’s inevitable if you’ve lived here long enough, especially since most of the states are being flown over in an attempt to get to California. But just because most people only experience these states from the sky doesn’t mean that they have nothing to contribute to the music scene, and if you really think about it most of the eastern portion of California is a flyover state as well.

Idaho, is a particularly notable flyover state, and not just because of a blue field that geese mistake for water and an overabundance of delicious potatoes, but because they gave us all Built to Spill.

Built to Spill has been making records since 1993, and in that time has gone from being an upstart indie darling to becoming one of the most appreciated and formative acts of the modern indie scene. In that span they’ve released eight records and are planning to release a cover album where they play the songs of the late great Daniel Johnston.

Fittingly this show is located in what might be described as the flyover portion of California, out in a small venue in Pioneertown called Pappy & Harriet’s. This tiny bar has mysteriously attracted some of the most exciting artists from all over the world and continues to be a beacon in the desert for those looking to catch a great show. So check it out, there’s more than just the city.

Location: Pappy & Harriet’s

Address: 53688 Pioneertown Rd, Pioneertown, CA 92268
