Rammstein is a German band that falls under a genre called Neue Deutsche Härte (NDH). With a literal translation of New German Hardness, this subgenre of rock music developed developed in Germany and Austria during the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. Rammstein was formed in 1994 in Berlin and their members have remained unchanged throughout the group’s history. The band got their break when they won a local contest and eventually signed a recording deal with Motor Music, and released their first studio album, Herzeleid. The album initially did not perform well, but with their unique style, performances, and personalities they were able to amass a large following. The LP eventually reached #6 in Germany, and their next album debuted at #1.
After establishing themselves as a legitimate group with a large fanbase, Rammstein embarked on a massive worldwide tour that lasted nearly 4 years. Following this behemoth of a tour, they signed with Universal Music, a major and well-respected label. Their next huge breakthrough was getting that #1 spot on the chart, which they achieved with the single Pussy off the album Liebe ist für alle da (2009). The group has released a total of 7 studio albums, with their most recent release coming in 2019 with the album Untitled. After a decade-long recording hiatus, Rammstein finally released a new album. Untitled reached #1 in 14 different countries, and the single Deutschland became their second single to reach the top spot in Germany.
