Dave Grohl has just announced that Them Crooked Vultures is “still a band” however, technically, addressing the group’s relative silence over the past decade. Them Crooked Vultures have only released one studio album, back in 2009 which was self-titled, and received a relatively warm reception from fans of these projects and music critics.
The supergroup consists of Grohl, who is best known as the drummer for Nirvana and frontman for the Foo Fighters, Josh Homme, who is the main face behind Queens of The Stone Age, and legendary bassist John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin.
“Josh is one of my best friends,”Grohl explained in an interview with the Guardian. “We’re like brothers. We go out and have waffles together. We ride motorcycles. There is nobody I’d rather play drums with. He’s the guy.”
He still elaborated that despite this, there are times when tensions can arise between the band members, due to the high profile Jones has carried due to his role in Led Zeppelin. While all three have been a part of numerous high profile bands, and Jones arguably has the most acclaim due to his work with the legendary band.
“There are times when you’ve relaxed into a sofa and you’re not thinking about his time in Led Zeppelin. Then you start playing and you’re immediately reminded that you are a musical speck compared to this man. It’s still hard to accept that I got to play in a band with that guy,” he continued “Technically we’re still a band. We practice once every decade, and we’re coming up on another decade aren’t we? I don’t have any official news but there’s always something cooking.”
