San Diego’s Comic-Con will feature some incredible artists, writers and creatives this year that have shaped the lives many Comic-Con goers. However, a new twist has been added to the lineup as country singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson will be hitting up the convention as part of the Sound & Fury panel.
The panel is called “SOUND & FURY: Creators of Animatrix and Batman Ninja Unite for Sturgill Simpson” and will feature Japanese manga series “Afro Samurai” creator, Takashi Okazaki, and director for the animated film “Batman Ninja,” Junpei Mizusaki. The three have teamed together to blend anime and American rock music into a new movie that has anime and music fans sitting at the edge of their seats to hear more about the upcoming film.
Simpson has also been working on music for other films. He recently wrote the theme song for filmmaker Jim Jarmusch’s, The Dead Don’t Die. The movie is a zombie horror comedy that was released June 14 and stars Bill Murray and Adam Driver.
It had been three years since Simpson dropped his last album, A Sailor’s Guide to Earth, when he wrote “The Dead Don’t Die.”
The singer-songwriter made headlines in 2017 when he refused to attend the Country Music Awards in defiance to Trump. Instead, Simpson decided to perform songs off A Sailor’s Guide to Earth and answer people’s question passing by and on a Facebook live stream.
Simpson will take the stage at Comic-Con on Saturday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 5AB when more information about Sound & Fury will be disclosed.
