Pharmakon Announces New Album Devour for August 2019 Release and Shares First Single “Self-Regulating System” and NSFW Teaser

Experimental artist Pharmakon has announced a new album called Devour, which will be released on August 30. Along with the album announcement the first single from the album has been released, a characteristically grinding slab of noise music called “Self-Regulating System.” Listen to the new song below:

Devour was recorded with Ben Greenberg of the New York industrial band Uniform and also marks a first for Margaret Chardiet, the artist behind Pharmakon. This is her first album to be recorded live in the studio, each side recorded as a continuous take. The goal of this recording technique was to capture the visceral experience of her live set.

The album has strong thematic elements that are carried through its five tracks. According to a press release, Chardiet uses “imagery and language of self-cannibalism as allegory for the self-destructive nature of humans.” “Self-Regulating System” stands at the center of the album as track three.

The album will be released on Sacred Bones like previous Pharmakon releases. Devour is Chardiet’s fourth full-length, following her excellent 2017 release Contact, which was praised by mxdwn reviewer Drew Pitt as “a shining culmination of Pharmakon’s work to date” and earned a High Fidelity designation. A teaser for the new album can be viewed below, featuring some disturbing, NSFW imagery of a woman literally being torn apart. Check it out below:
