Weyes Blood @ Fonda Theatre 8/8

Weyes Blood is the project of multi-instrumentalist Natalie Mering, born in California and spending most of her formative years in Pennsylvania, she moved to Portland, Oregon for college – before dropping out to pursue music. Weyes Blood, formally Weyes Bluhd (inspired by a Flannery O’Conner novel Wise Blood) began when Mering relocated once again, this time to New York City, where she started to self-produce and release material.

Her first record The Outside Room (2011) established Merings etherial edge, gaining notoriety the independent record label Mexican Summer signed her – under which she released The Innocents (2014) and Front Row Seat To Earth (2016) the latter receiving critical acclaim. Returning to her Californian roots in 2016, where she has lived ever since, she has been working on new material, releasing Titanic Rising (2019) earlier this year.

Making music since she was 15 and establishing herself in underground music scenes on both the East and West coast. Mering has developed a spooky and complex sound, seeing its conception in the experimental, it has drifted towards and established itself in the more traditional modes of folk and soft rock. Working with artists of the same movement, she has featured and collaborated with the likes of Ariel Pink and Drugdealer.

The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood is a historic venue, having been re-incarnated several times over the decades since the 1920s. This show will be supported by local radio station KCRW and Goldenvoice.
