Ten years later and no rust
With their previous album Liebe ist für alle da meaning “love is for everyone” in English, having come out in 2009, it’s been ten years since Rammstein has produced new music. Even after all this time, the hard rock/industrial metal band has come back stronger than ever. Having formed in 1994, this untitled album, also referred to as Rammstein, is their seventh full-length studio album and can be classified as their best to date.
A noteworthy aspect of the band is, after 23 years since their formation, Rammstein still is comprised of the same six individuals. While some bands shuffle through different members every couple of years, this German band is still going strong.
Having pre-released “Deutschland,” (“Germany”) the first track of the album, the attention it garnered in just a few days showed that fans were still there, lurking in the background waiting. Millions of views of the music video was a great sign for the whole album to come. Overall, the song is a great kick-off to the album and reminds fans of why they love the German band.
Another song that stands out on the album is “Zeig Dich” (“Show Yourself”). At the beginning of the song, fans are exposed to choir-like singing with operatic, female vocals that appear throughout the track as well. It’s the only track with vocals like that. A song that is similar is “Puppe” (“Doll”) in the sense of the vocals shifting from a soft tone to straight, punctuated words. Two minutes in and listeners feel the difference in the vibe the song portrays with the increased drums and increased volume of the vocals.
With three songs, “Radio,” “Sex” and “Tattoo,” having titles in English, this album has the most tracks that aren’t in German. Their first few albums didn’t have any tracks with English names. Although these three songs have English titles, the songs themselves contain mostly German lyrics. Since the first album to now, even for those who don’t understand German, which a majority of all their songs are with only a little English sprinkled throughout, the words are impactful and people will find themselves bobbing their head along.
Overall, Rammstein is one of the best albums the band has put forth. It comprises the old sound that fans associate with them while also experimenting with new elements. No amount of time stops Rammstein from moving forward in the music world.
