mxdwn PREMIERE: Louise Lemón Takes a Closer Look at Dia De Los Muertos in New Video for “Montaña”

Swedish singer Louise Lemón’s music is self-described as “death gospel” and that’s certainly an apt description of her song “Montaña.” We’re excited to premiere the video for that song from her album A Broken Heart is an Open Heart, which was released earlier this year.

The song fits in well with the recent wave of goth and metal influenced singers like Emma Ruth Rundle, Anna Von Hausswolff and Chelsea Wolfe. The tones are soft, relying on atmosphere to create the dark mood. Lemón has a pop-singer’s croon, bridging the gaps between pop, gospel, blues and folk. Her album was produced by Randall Dunn, who’s well known for helping acts like Sunn O))) and the aforementioned Chelsea Wolfe craft their idiosyncratic sounds.

“This video was recorded in Mexico City during Dia de los Muertos, The day of the dead,” said Lemón. “This is a very special day where they not just grief, but more so celebrate life. I wanted to record this very special song here because I feel it really relates my whole album. Going through sorrows but finding a light in the dark somehow.”

Lemón recently played Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands. She performed alongside acts like Sleep, Sumac, Emma Ruth Rundle and Marissa Nadler. She currently has two upcoming shows, both in Sweden.
