The band Wilco has announced the lineup for their upcoming Sky Blue Sky Festival. The festival has been advertised as a destination festival, which will take place in Mexico next January. Some of the acts who will be performing at the event include singers Courtney Barnett and Sharon Van Etten and instrumentalist Kamasi Washington. These performers and more will come together at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya for an all inclusive week at the resort. Differing from your typical music festival, tickets to this event include a hotel room, dining, a variety of activities at the hotel and of course the Sky Blue Sky Festival.
Formed in the mid 1990s, Wilco has been making music for 20 years and is hoping to blow away fans both new and old with this festival. This festival, and the other events being organized by Wilco recently, show that in the period since the band’s last album, 2016’s Schmilco, Wilco has still been hard at work getting their music to their fans. The band and the festival’s organizers have also teamed up with the Positive Legacy organization, a group that works with music events and festivals to encourage fans and artists to support the local communities and environments. The group will be working on organizing a day of service in the community where fans from abroad can come and give back to the town that hosted them. They are also working on a donation drive and an auction to raise money for local schools and children.
The lineup for the Sky Blue Sky festival hosts a wide range of performers. From Calexico to Dr. Dog, there is an act for everybody planned for the week. Notably, indie rock singer and songwriter Courtney Barnett is set to perform. The Australian musician has gained the attention of many over recent years, breaking through with her first full album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, in 2015. Also performing is Sharon Van Etten, who is most well known for her song “Every Time the Sun Comes Up.” Van Etten released her most recent studio album, Remind Me Tomorrow, this past January. The album was supported prior to its release by four singles, which included the tracks “Comeback Kid” and “Jupiter 4.” Producer and talented instrumentalist Kamasi Washington will be performing at Sky Blue Sky as well, bringing his unique brand of modern jazz to the event. Wilco themselves will be performing three sets at the festival, the only act confirmed to be performing on multiple days.
Tickets for the Sky Blue Sky Festival are going to go on sale on May 22, and will be limited to only 2300 tickets. Due to the packages offered including housing and dining during the event, the least expensive option starts at $1599. The event poster can be found below with the full lineup for the festival.
