Two of the biggest names in music right now, Troye Sivan and Charli XCX who have worked together on the smash hit “1999,” meant to capitalize off millennial’s nostalgia as reported by mxdwn, have teamed up once again and this time it is to kick off Pride 2019 with a bang. On June 6th Sivan and XCX will both host and headline the first ever Go West Fest. The name hails from the Village People song, “Go West,” which was about escaping to find a utopia where homophobia does not exist, as stated in a press release sent to mxdwn.

The Sivan and XCX hosted Go West Fest is the first of its kind and it will be sponsored by Live Nation and Bud Light. Some of the proceeds from the Go West Fest will go towards benefitting the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or most commonly known as GLAAD, in order to help aid in the fight for LGBTQ acceptance and equality in America. The venue is The Wiltern in Los Angeles and tickets will be available for purchase on Friday, May 17th, and for pre-sale Thursday the 16th, on Ticketmaster.

In addition to Sivan and XCX there are several acts, that were hand-picked by Sivan and XCX for their activism in the LGBTQ community, including Allie X– who has previously performed at a festival with XCX in 2018, as mxdwn has previously written about. The other acts are Chika, Quay Dash, Dorian Electra, Gia Gunn, Carlie Hanson, Leland, Pussy Riot and DJ sets from Baby Uniq, K.O. AKA Koala and Alima Lee.

In addition to the stellar musical line up, there will be a celebration of LGBTQ culture and artists at the Go West Fest. There will be a space dedicated at The Wiltern for emerging LGBTQ artists to show off their work. This space will be provided by Junior High, a publication dedicated to promoting work from artists who are apart of groups that might be considered marginalized, such as the LGBTQ community. There will be food, art, and “cultural offerings,” as the press release sent to mxdwn put it, at the Go West Fest, as well.
