It’s no secret that UK metalcore band Bullet For My Valentine has gradually become more melodic over the course of their six studio albums. Their latest single “Not Dead Yet” maybe be the best proof yet that the band has moved away from their more hardcore tendencies, shifting towards alternative metal and nu-metal. Any fans disillusioned by this change of sound may be surprised to hear that this style of metal is pretty close to what the band sounded like before they changed their name from Jeff Killed John and became the major label metalcore force they’d become famous for as Bullet For My Valentine.
The verses feature chugging riffs that give way to a crooned chorus that would fit in perfectly on any alternative rock radio station’s lineup between Shinedown and Linkin Park. The video, which was shot in Japan, features footage of the band performing spliced with shots of a couple dancing, friends out in the city, and a man jumping into the ocean. The video is less of a story and more an opportunity to pair stunningly colorful visuals with the heavy-yet-accessible music from Bullet From My Valentine.
“We shot our latest video for ‘Not Dead Yet’ in Japan after our Summersonic 2018 performances,” said singer Matthew Tuck. “We’ve never done a video there before so we thought ‘Why not?!’ Visually, it’s stunning thanks to the amazing work by Japanese filmmakers Maxilla. We love this track and can’t wait for you all to see the new video.”
Bullet For My Valentine released Gravity earlier this summer. That album included several singles, such as “Venom,” which featured visually stunning music video, and “Over It,” a song that was released right as they announced the new album.
