Soft Cell Return After 15 Years for First New Song Since 2002 and Announce Last Show Ever to Coincide with 40th Anniversary

Bands have been returning and retiring for quite some time now, and it seems, as Brooklyn Vegan states, that one group is doing both.

Soft Cell, an English synthpop couple, has finally announced their return after fifteen years. The duo first came to musical prominence in the 1980s with a quick split happening in 1984. In 2001, however, the duo joined back together releasing their fifth album in 2002, Cruelty Without Beauty. 2004, though, also marked their last show for almost fifteen years. This reunion, as they have released in a statement, will also include their last show as Soft Cell.

The show, titled “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye,” will take place on September 30th at the O2 Arena in London, a venue well known for hosting final shows.

Two days before the show, Soft Cell will also release a special 10-disc box set which will contain their two first new songs in fifteen years. The box set is titled Keychains and Snowstorms and features the two new singles “Northern Lights” and “Guilty (Cos I Say You Are).”

Check out the new single “Northern Lights” below. The new song, though still retaining their classic Soft Cell sound, does have moments similar to, as Brooklyn Vegan also notes, Imagine Dragons or Bastille. Soft Cell, however, still holds onto that perfect 1980s feel that makes you want to slip on some neon leg warmers.
