In the style of the famous In Utero, In Tribute, In Entirety of Nirvana’s In Utero or the Flaming Lips’ With a Little Help from My Fwends tribute album to the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, “heavy underground” label Magnetic Eye Records will be releasing a track-for-track reimagining of Pink Floyd‘s classic 1979 concept record The Wall, following successful Kickstarter campaign.
Set to be released on September 28, the tribute record includes 26 separate bands each attempting to take one song off of one of the most revered albums of all time, and reinterpreting it with their own unique flavor. The massive double concept album 2.0 will feature the likes of Melvins and Pallbearer, and like them, all other bands contributing mostly come from the metal scene.
In fact, however, this undertaking has been taken twice before. Once in 2001, by alt-country outfit Luther Wright and the Wrongs on Rebuild the Wall, which took every cut from The Wall and reimagined it as a bluegrass country song. And again in 2005 by prog-rock legend Billy Sherwood of Yes fame on Back Against the Wall, which mostly featured prog-rock artists. Sherwood actually followed it up the year after with a Dark Side of the Moon tribute album as well.
