Courtney Love and Dave Navarro Cover Velvet Underground’s “Waiting For The Man” for Charity

Former Hole singer Courtney Love and Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro covered the Velvet Underground’s “I’m Waiting for the Man” during the Above Ground benefit concert in Los Angeles on April 16th. The concert was to raise money for MusiCares, a Recording Academy charity to support musicians through medical or personal crises.

The show was organized by Billy Idol guitarist Billy Morrison and Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction. Navarro said of the purpose of the event, “We have lost lot of friends this year, due to mental health issues,” Navarro said, referring to the deaths of Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell and Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington who took their lives last year.

Love and Navarro fronted a pick-up band for the Velvet Underground cover in front of a delighted audience, which appeared on the band’s 1967 album The Velvet Underground & Nico. Love had previously performed the song in 2013 with Navarro and his former hard rock covers act, Camp Freddy. The two artists appeared alongside musicians like Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, Billy Idol, Jesse Hughes from Eagles of Death Metal, Dave Kushner of Velvet Revolver, and many more. The show also included full-LP performances of The Velvet Underground & Nico and Adam and the Ants’ Kings of the Wild Frontier.
