The always unpredictably passionate media darling, Jesse Hughes, has backtracked on his anti-gun control rant and has issued an apology to those he might have offended. The Eagles of Death metal lead singer took to Instagram to issue an apology by way of video stating that his previous statements were misconstrued. He said, “I was not intending to impugn the youth of America and this beautiful thing they’ve accomplished.”
“I truly am sorry. I did not mean to hurt anyone or cause any harm. As someone who’s watched their friends shot in front of their eyes, and seen people killed that they love, I should have handled this a lot more maturely and responsibly, and I did not do that and I messed up. I hope that you’re able to forgive me, but please know that I did not mean to do what it seems like I was doing.”
Hughes initially referred to the March For Our Lives protesters who took to the streets on March 24 as “vile abusers of the dead,” even posting a photo of survivor Emma Gonzalez tearing up the Constitution. Under the image Hughes put the caption “Behold……the Awful Face Of Treason…..survivor of Nothing….Lover of Treason…..enjoy your little moment…..it’s about to End…… #stupidity #hatersofliberty #loversofsatan #borntolose #2ndamendment”.
Hughes himself is a mass shooting survivor, after an attack at an Eagles of Death Metal concert in Paris on November 13, 2015 at the Bataclan Theatre. The terrorists who attacked that night captured and killed 89 hostages at the theatre and 130 hostages were killed overall. Hughes said of the Paris attacks, “Those who didn’t make it out of the theater alive died very beautifully; I just saw people doing some of the most beautiful things that a person can do, they died very well, with great courage.”
The March For Our Lives protests were in response and support of those who were killed in a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on February 14th. The peaceful protests were turned into a left vs. right gun control media circus in which Hughes allowed himself to get caught in the middle of. Hughes has since said he will create separate a Instagram account to host his political beliefs.
