Over the weekend at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Ann Wilson of Heart and Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains teamed up for an inspired cover of “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden in a touching tribute to the late Chris Cornell. As reported by Rolling Stone, the duo performed a stripped down version of the classic song, with Wilson nailing a stellar vocal performance to match the delicate guitar work of Cantrell.
“Black Hole Sun” was originally released on the smash hit album Superunknown and became one of Soundgarden’s biggest hits and one of the defining songs of the early 90’s grunge movement. Both Wilson and Cantrell are from the Seattle area so to see the two of them performing such a moving tribute was certainly one of the best performances of the whole evening. Cornell tragically took his own life last year while under the influence of prescription drugs, leaving the entire music world devastated.
Cantrell and Alice in Chains are busy putting the finishing touches on a new record and will be heading out on a summer tour in the coming months while Wilson just recently wrapped up her first successful solo tour.
