Marilyn Manson took to Instagram to announce that he will be making an appearance during the second week of this year’s beloved Coachella. He will be joining Japanese metal band X Japan (the only band of its kind on the festival) during their headlining set at 11:10 p.m. on Saturday 4/21 on the Mojave stage.
Manson then took to twitter saying “I never thought I would play at a festival I was banned from. But… Yoshiki invited me to join the stage with XJAPAN. You don’t want to miss this one.” Whether Manson was actually banned from Coachella and for what reason still remains to be in question.
Manson released his tenth studio album on October 6 2017 and he recently released a music video for the single “Tattoed in Reverse” featuring Courtney Love and Lisa Marie Presley.
X Japan have not released a record since Dahlia in 1996 but have remained legends in the glam metal scene in the United States and internationally. They are playing in between the two highly respected alt rock acts Highly Suspect and alt-J.
X JAPAN is the most successful rock group in Japanese history. Led by composer, drummer, and pianist, YOSHIKI, the band has sold more than 30 million albums, singles, and videos combined, sold out Japan’s 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome 18 times. X Japan has also headlined major international stages such as London’s Wembley Arena and New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Yoshiki will be making a return after emergency cervical artificial disc replacement surgery less than one year ago.
After breaking up in 1997 the band launched its reunion in 2008 with 3 nights at the Tokyo Dome. In 2010, X Japan performed for the first time at Lollapalooza in Chicago. Immediately following the festival, X Japan played the biggest concert in its history, selling out two consecutive shows at Japan’s Nissan Stadium, filling 140,000 seats. The band then launched their first North American tour, selling out across the U.S. and Canada.
Manson anounced in March that he will be joining forces with Rob Zombie for another version of Twins of Evil tour this summer. The tour will start in Detroit and will hit 29 dates.
