Kelela Pays Homage to The Sims in New Video for “Frontline”

Kelela Mizanekristos, better known as Kelela, has released a new sims-like music video, for her single “Frontline”. Her single was previously featured among the top 50 songs of 2017, and was first debuted on the HBO show Insecure. The music video, starts off with a Sims-inspired version of Kelela driving to her lover’s place, and admitting to him that the place he held in her heart, no longer exists. She sings: “There’s a place you hold I left behind, I’m finished … Since you took your time, you should know why I’m quitting”

The R&B break up anthem’s visual was greatly influenced by the prominent video game The Sims. “I love speaking to my fans through music videos and I always find it more fun to reference things that we can all relate to that may not be in the forefront.” In an interview with Rolling Stone, she explained: “With this sims-like video, I was able to tell my story in a light-hearted but dramatic way. It’s about leaving your ex with the wind in your hair while acknowledging a curiously complex feeling of pain that he has left you for a white woman.”
This song marks, Kelela’s third track from her debut album Take Me Apart.
