In August of 2017, Doom Side of the Moon played its first ever show. The show that night wasn’t the only thing this group did to celebrate Dark Side Of The Moon’s fiftieth anniversary. The band covered Pink Floyd’s entire album and replaced the word ‘dark’ with ‘doom’ for its title. Released on the same day as Pink Floyd’s debut album, August fourth, Doom Side Of The Moon reached number eighty-one, compared to Pink Floyd’s 196 in 1967.
On January twelfth, Doom Side Of The Moon released a surprise EP entitled Encore. The band played two of the album’s songs during their August debut—their own version of “Dark Side Of The Moon” and a slew of Pink Floyd covers that the band characterizes as “Sabbath takes,” meaning Pink Floyd in the style of Black Sabbath. “Have A Cigar” already has a video that came out along with the surprise EP.
The group recorded at Big Orange Recording Studios in Austin, Texas with Grammy-award winner Stuart Sikes at the helm. There will be a “sludged out” green vinyl that will play three tracks on one side available in mid-March. Watch their video for “Have A Cigar” below.
